Cannot uninstall java 7 update 45

Have spent a ridiculous amount of time on this! I have not heard of JavaRa before though, so i will check this out! We've had a ton of recurring problems with Java upgrades at our company. As a result, we've found a method that works really well for us when we run into issues,. We select the manual "let me select fixes to apply" option. We've had great success with these steps on Java 6. We are just now starting to move to Java 7.

I am needing to remove 7 update 21 and cannot find the product code to use. I have been fighting this same issue for weeks. I don't consider this a "good solution", but it's the only thing I've gotten to work. It seems to hang, but about 45 mins to an hour of patience and it will get to the login prompt.

I have my policy set to uninstall software when the computer is removed from the policy. The remove wants to hang and takes another 45 mins to an hour. I'll see the error, but it does go ahead and successfully install. This final step seems to remove whatever was preventing proper deployment.

This is the only procedure I've gotten to work. But after these 4 steps, I can deploy and uninstall Java through gpo again with no problems. You do have to wait the 45 mins both times.

I fixed 10 computers last night, 80 to go. Thank you Java for the sleep deprivation. Java 7 Update 11 is where is started happening, went to update to u13 and then the GPO would hang for somewhere around 40 minutes and not remove nor install Java. I'm not sure if this points to the problem but I'm struggling with this right now and am not having the greatest luck.

I've been trying to remove and update manually but there's been a large number of machines I haven't been able to get to, they're already on Java 7 Update 25 and I'm still trying to get everything from Java 7 u11 and up removed.

When you run a Java Update there are a number of dependencies that could cause issues like more of you are seeing. What are you doing to stop anything that could be keeping Java in use browsers, etc? We had to add some custom steps to our Java installs in Shavlik Protect to eliminate problems similar to what you are all seeing.

If you are not cleaning things up on the machine before the update runs you will inevitably run into these issues. The GPO runs before any items have been started such as browsers so shouldn't have to worry about these items. The problem is coming in that there are registry entries left behind that do not seem to be removed and it's causing the installer. I am attempting to come up with a diff file between a clean install and one with apps and java installed to remove all of the java entries.

I tried deploying using GPP Group Policy Preferences or you could of used a batch file, to remove old Java registry entries, but that still didn't fix the error. What you need to do is check your Java Program Files folder i.

I've found that where we had this error, we had a failed previous install or corrupted install and the install. What I've done is set a GPP to copy installer.
